" The Brick Wall, of an Old Cinema, Amherst, Ma."
"Then and Now, When and How" {a work in progress, check back soon}
Add my name to the list of people, who have said, ..." You can't go home again." After traveling, and living virtually everywhere, along with Lord knows where---I, recently, moved back to my home Town of Amherst , Ma, after 40 years in absence. If you've ever tried to go home again, even for a short visit, or just to pass through, you've probably added your name to the list as well. Not to worry,...the list is long, you are not alone. Just more than a few, and less than a multitude, have uttered those words with heart felt feelings.
The words, " Save the Drake for Willy, and Humanity", were painted on the brick wall of that Cinema---hopefully to last in perpetuity. I was there, when those words were first painted, along with Willy's friend, and mine, Jean Pierre Jordaan, a fixture of Amherst, long since lost to the West Coast. He was Willy's friend, and I was mutually, as a friend of Jean's. Many a beer passed my lips, in the company of both of them, at the Drake---an establishment worthy of saving, and of the painted words on that wall, and memories in the mind.
As fate would have it, the Drake could not be saved. Let us hope Amherst, Ma, can be saved for humanity. The words, " SAVE AMHERST FOR HUMANITY", should have been added as well.
Many things have, and continue to change. What the futures holds, depends solely on what we all, even you --- do, or do not do, for ourselves and those who follow.
Newly occurring examples may be put forth on the following pages, - - - in a small way, it is hoped that they might aid some in creating futures that are more beneficial, . . . for the multitude of others to follow.

The Drake was simply a Bar and Game Room, in the basement of an old studio apartment building, mostly rented to local students. It was closed 40 years ago, though up until the doors locked for the last time, it remained a safe haven for the souls that endeavored to remain part of the human race. It was a sad day when the Drake was closed, lost to humanity forever.
Through the past half century. many things and places have been lost to humanity, - - - which diminished the souls of those left behind. Jean Pierre, had his own way of dealing with society's loss of humanity - - - a move of residence, to the San Juan Islands, and Friday Harbor, off the Coast of the State of Washington. A good man he was, and is, that stayed true to his values, never leaving the San Juan Islands to even visit the Main Land to this day. He is missed by many, in many places.
In the pursuit, of what one feels society requires, please do keep in mind the Paintings, " Off to the Bahamas", "The Red Bird of Apathy", and "Nantucket", ...on Pages 1 Modern Paintings, & Page 1 Traditional Paintings, of this Web Site,...along with the corresponding verse attached to them.
Thank you for supporting the Arts, Be Well. DJ Marshall {Page 10, is a work in progress}
PS: As of, 12-23-2019, both The Pub, and Charlies Town Tavern, are now closed permanently---& Scheduled for demolition. If Amherst, was part of your past,...don't even bother planning to visit, you will be very disappointed. The whole block of buildings, including Cousin's Market, are scheduled for demolition---to put up more VERY UGLY HIGH PRICED APTS. . I can't imagine anyone from the general public voting for this, accept a Construction Company. In deciding not to donate ANY money to the Town of Amherst, or the University of MA,...make note of this disgrace to the Public, and Town of Amherst, as the Prime Reason for your decision to decline continued support for either institution. Be Well.
